Aging is an important and inevitable process. Old age is associated with multiple medical conditions. A study conducted by NIMHANS across old age homes showed that practicing yoga for a mere six months helped in reversing the age-related effects in the physical and mental health of the elderly. This highlights that introducing yoga, even at an old age, is beneficial to people. And with this inspiration, we have a daily Yoga session in the evening where our elders perform yoga asanas which is conducted by Yoga therapist Mrs. Sumalatha. Our elders perform Yoga with full of enthusiasm in our recreation zone.
For every festival, we perform Pooja along with Bhajan programs at our temples and all our elders participate in the holy festivities. We recently celebrated the Senior Citizens Day on October 3 rd and conducted a few fun activities. World Senior Citizen Day is celebrated to recognise and acknowledge all the contributions senior citizens have made to society and our lives. After an entire life of working hard for their families and society, the golden years are for elders to finally hang up their working hats and sit back to enjoy the fruits of their labours.
Travel keeps seniors moving and active. Older adults who are more physically active have lower rates of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and many other diseases. Yearly basis, we take our beneficiaries and staff to one day trip to nearby temples which helps them feel better both physically and mentally.
